Playing Time Policy

We are continuing a "practice for priority playing time" policy for the 2012 season.

The head coach (or board members) will assign 20 to 25 players as roster eligible at the end of any practice preceeding a game day. All game members are welcome to dress for every game, but there should be no expectatin of playing in the game until there is a decisive lead by us or are opponent. The policy is flexible and the head coach (or board member acting as coach when the head coach is not present) will make judgement calls as he sees fit - please don’t question his decisions in front of the team.

Basic Guidelines

  • Practice does not *guarantee* playing time but is a primary factor.
  • Missing practice will surely reduce the amount of playing time you get.
  • Winning is a priority, so after the first quarter, decisions may be made to play key players even if they missed practice, but this is typically not done. Please be understanding no matter how much you think you deserve more playing time.
  • No whining!
  • Negative attitudes at practices and games WILL limit your future participation with the team.
  • The head coach's decisions on the field are final. Address him directly, separately and after the game if necessary.
  • Once again... No Whining!
  • If you are on the dues payment plan, keep current. If you are not current, you will not be able to practice or play. No exceptions.

Key Factors Affecting Game Playing Time

  • Skills & Conditioning - honing your skills and getting into shape is your responsibility.
  • Practice Participation - consistent attendance with few, reasonably excusable no-shows.
  • Teamwork Skills - sticking with the game plan, passing the rock, short runs on midfield, etc.
  • Attitude - got a problem? talk with the head coach on the side or leave quietly.

This is just the beginning of a policy that we hope will prevent the under attendance of practices and the over attendance of games, and still allow us to field a competitive team. The guidelines are subject to change as we figure out what works and what does not, so be patient with this process, and provide constructive feedback as you see fit.
